so not the macOS only but words and other softwares connected to the endnote I remember before even the new office had issues with endnote and we had to use old version of office for few months before they do fix it. and to be hones usually the best way for security and speed/stability I would prefer updating my macOS and I have other software that will need update so my life won't be stuck with the endnote X9.

The thing with macOS is that all new MacBooks will have the new MacOS, also apple push hard toward updating their OS. ***The new endnote will have full support for at least two years and will be more compatible with the new MacOS ***X9 limited support and long time to fix the issues and will be outdated. Few citation-styles, less storage space, and so on.Here is the unfortunate fact based on my experience and others, The company won't stand behind the old product as they want us to buy the new version so the following will happen: EndNote Basic, using a non-Marquette email account: this version is free to all, but has the least functionality. This version can be synched with the desktop version, allowing you to update citations while away from the desktop workstation on which you have the app.

Raynor Memorial Libraries offers this version as part of our Web of Science subscription it requires the creation of a personal account in that platform.

EndNote Online (formerly EndNote Web), using your Marquette email account: this version has a moderate level of functionality.Raynor Memorial Libraries does not offer this version: you would have to buy it yourself. EndNote Desktop: The most functional of the three, this is an app to buy and download on your desktop/laptop computer. You can organize references into folders, and quickly and easily create and format bibliographies using a wide choice of citation styles. Endnote is a reference management tool that allows you to create a personal database of up to 10,000 references by importing citations from online databases or text files.
